The Mysterious Affair At Styles (Hercule Poirot #1) by Agatha Christie – BOOK REVIEW
This is the first Agatha Christie book I have read and I am pleasantly surprised! I didn’t think it would be my sort of thing but I read through this relatively quickly, the majority of which was in one sitting. There are many “twists” and “clues” throughout that keep you guessing who the culprit is (which I didn’t guess correctly), with all the clues adding up and making sense after the reveal.
This would have been a 5* review (because I didn’t see what was coming and that’s what you want from a murder mystery, right?!) but I didn’t really care for any of the suspects and wasn’t bothered as such who actually did the crime, just how and why it was committed. Some of the characters fell a little flat for me which is why the rating is a little lower than it could have been. That’s not to say that all the characters were like that as I found Poirot an endearing man and can’t wait to read the next book of his investigations. Hastings, the narrator, was a little clueless throughout, but added to the suspense and surprise with what emerged and was revealed.
Can’t wait to continue these books and would definitely recommend!
